On Friday afternoon there is nowhere to sit. Customers stand, and some give up and leave. On Tuesday at noon, three chairs are empty. Bookings come in by phone, but who is coming when lives in someone's head or in the corner of a notebook. And when a booked customer does not show up, that slot is simply lost.
The problem is not the skill of the team. It is how the day is scheduled, and a few small changes fix much of it.
Let customers choose their own time
Most customers decide when to visit late in the evening, after work or on a day off, when the salon phone is off. With an online booking page they can pick the service, the stylist and a free slot whenever it suits them.
Put the link on your Facebook page, on Instagram and in your WhatsApp status. People looking for you can book right there.
Make booking take one minute
The longer the form, the fewer people finish it. A name and a mobile number are enough. If customers have to install an app or create an account, many give up halfway. Confirming with a one-time code on their phone is enough, and it keeps fake bookings out.
Give walk-ins a token
Not everyone will book ahead, and they do not have to. Give walk-in customers a token and send them a message when their turn is close. They can run an errand or have a cup of tea instead of crowding the waiting area.
A screen inside the salon showing the current token also ends most "how much longer?" questions.
Remind people the day before
The most common reason for a no-show is simply forgetting. A message the day before, or a few hours ahead, brings many people in, and those who cannot come tell you early, so the slot can go to someone else.
Fill the quiet hours
Once you keep track, you will see which days and times are always quiet. Offer something small for exactly those hours, such as a midweek afternoon facial or hair-spa package. The busy days get lighter and the quiet ones earn more.
Keep stylist commission clear
Who did which service, and what commission they are owed, causes arguments at month-end in many salons. When every bill carries the stylist's name, commission works itself out, and each stylist can see their own day on their own phone.
How Keshbari does it
We built Keshbari for salons, parlours and spas:
- Every salon gets its own booking page and website, with a gallery, reviews and a map.
- Customers book with just a mobile number and an SMS code. No app needed.
- Walk-in tokens, a "you're next" SMS, and a live queue on the salon's screen.
- Bills straight from a booking, with cash, card or mobile payment, points and packages.
- Stylist commission is calculated for you.
- All of it on a phone, in Bangla.
Start this week
Do just one thing in the first week: put the booking link on your Facebook page, and enter phone bookings there too. After a week you will see how many people come on which days and which hours stay empty. The next step becomes easy to choose from there.
